12U Off-Ice Training Program
The 12U Off-Ice Training Program builds on the balance, skating efficiency, and movement control developed in the 10U program and begins preparing players for the increased physical demands of full-ice hockey and body checking.
At this age, many players are entering growth spurts that temporarily affect coordination, balance, and endurance. It’s common to see awkward movement patterns, reduced single-leg stability, and quicker fatigue during long practices and games, especially as players transition from half-ice to full-ice play. This program helps players adapt by progressing core strength, muscular endurance, and body control during these changes.
This is also the stage where structured strength training is gradually introduced—not to maximize load, but to teach proper movement patterns and prepare the body for the higher forces and contact demands that begin at the 14U level.
The program is built in phases that follow the hockey season (in-season, post-season, off-season, and pre-season).
Each phase consists of daily routines, and every routine has a specific focus, ensuring players train with intention throughout the year.
Daily routines rotate through key areas such as:
Dynamic balance and coordination challenges to stabilize skating during growth-related changes.
Beginner strength foundations to support posture, skating mechanics, and future body checking demands.
Muscular endurance training to tolerate longer practices, full-ice play, and repeated shifts.
Speed, agility, and quickness with reaction components that reflect game-speed movement.
Gameday warm-up routines to prepare the body and mind for competition.
Post-game recovery and mobility routines to promote faster recovery during busy travel schedules
All workouts use the Overtime Kit, which includes all the equipment needed to follow the daily training and recovery routines. Sessions are video-guided and can be completed at home, at the rink, or on the road.
Workouts are slightly longer than the 8U and 10U level (20–35 minutes), matching the increased demand of on-ice endurance, without interfering with practices, games, or school.

This is a progressive development system—not random workouts—designed to help 12U players adapt to a changing body, sustain higher workloads, and build the foundation needed for the physicality of the 14U level.
