8U Off-Ice Training Program

The 8U Off-Ice Training Program introduces young hockey players to structured training in a fun, age-appropriate way—while building the core strength, body control, and balance they need to find their edges and stay stable on the ice.

At this level, many players struggle with ankle pronation (ankles collapsing inside the skates), poor single-leg balance, and limited core control, which can make skating look shaky and inconsistent. This program addresses those common issues early, creating a strong movement foundation that every future level builds on 8-18U.

The program is built in phases that follow the hockey season (in-season, post-season, off-season, and pre-season).
Each phase consists of daily routines, and every routine has a specific focus—so players know exactly what they’re working on each day without guessing.

Daily routines rotate through key areas such as:

Balance & coordination to help players find their edges and stay upright.

Core strength and control to improve hockey posture, stability, and skating mechanics.

Speed, agility, and quickness to build fundamental athleticism.

Total-body strength using simple, age-appropriate exercises.

Recovery and mobility, to learn self-care techniques before and after on-ice sessions.

All workouts use the Overtime Kit, which includes all the equipment needed to follow the daily training and recovery routines. Sessions are video-guided and can be completed at home, at the rink, or on the road.

Workouts are intentionally short (under 20 minutes) to keep kids engaged, consistent, and progressing—without burnout.
